Ph.D. Chemistry/Physics, is the former (now retired) Head of Sustainability, Conservation and Certification Unit, MPOB, with specialization in analytical chemistry and environmental assessment. She has worked 37 years (1979 – May 2016) in palm oil research: method development (chemical as well as instrumental, including laser-induced fluorescence and phenolics), environmental assessment including Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of palm products and sustainable development. Yew Ai has served on numerous committees, including Codex Alimentarius Committee, ISO/TC 34/SC 11, SIRIM Technical Committee on Climate Change. Environmental projects include: Cradle-To-Gate LCA of refined products, commercial and retail products (margarine and shortening, cooking oil, soap) Refined Palm Oil and its Fractions. Yew Ai has 22 patents filed and over 100 papers in journals, proceedings and book chapters. She has numerous environmental related publications.

mS. khor yU lENG 

Yu Leng is an Oxford and LSE-trained political economist. She started her career in research in the financial industry and shifted to the agribusiness sectors of cane sugar and palm oil, with a Southeast Asia focus. In recent years, she has worked as independent economist in palm oil (writer of the Khor Reports Palm Oil blog), specializing in sustainable supply-chains and frontier markets. She is Research Associate (2017-2020) at the Institute of China Studies, University Malaya. She was Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) in 2013.


Yu Leng has advised, designed and led research projects for Southeast Asian business and Fortune 500 companies including Bunge, Cargill, Neste, Unilever, Procter & Gamble (looking within and outside the region); and has worked on research for the European Union Commission and the NGO sector, such as the RSPO and WWF.

B.Sc.(Maths & Info Sc.), M.B.A. is currently a freelance IT consultant for a software company that specialize in application for palm oil industry. She is a technology and business visionary with executive hands-on experience in diverse range of technologies within multiple industry settings in various countries (i.e. Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong and US). She has more than 26 years working in various industries including banking, insurance, charge card, manufacturing, animal nutrition, hotel and real estate development. Chiou Fong has the experience in managing Networking Infrastructure, Software Design, Quality Assurance, Product Development, and Internet Technology.
